The Office of Environmental
Health Services is responsible for several community health programs
that affect many aspects of community life.
- The
Animal Services Division provides animal and rabies
control services including licensing of cats and dogs, investigating
bite incidents and other animal related complaints, and
enforcing leash laws. The Animal Shelter provides animal
adoption services and shelters impounded animals.
- The Public Health Lab maintains
the Environmental Lab, a Wastewater Lab, and operates the
Health District's Air and Water Pollution Chemical Laboratory.
Mission Statement
In order to facilitate the development
and maintenance of conditions in which people can be healthy
within the Galveston County Health District, the Environmental
and Consumer Health Division will: 1) educate the community
as to what are considered good public health practices, and
2) enforce public health statutes and regulations as needed
to maintain a healthy community.
