Microchips
Microchips, the required means of pet registration in the municipalities served by the ARC, are about the size of a grain of rice and easily placed just under the skin at the base of the neck, between the shoulder blades. Microchips are used to look up pet ownership information, which helps lost pets be returned home.
Pet registration process
- Have your pets vaccinated for rabies by a licensed veterinarian.
- Make a copy of each of your pets' current rabies vaccination certificate.
If your pet is microchipped
If your pet is microchipped, there is no cost for county registration. You can complete and submit a registration form online. Please fill out a separate form for each pet you are registering. (Note: You may have to save the form to your computer to use the "Submit by Email and "Print Form" buttons. You may also print the form by using your computer's CTRL+P function.)
You must include proof of microchip with a letter, certificate or receipt from the microchip company OR a veterinarian showing that the animal is micro-chipped.
To submit your rabies vaccine certificate and proof of microchip, please fax to 409.945.2540, email to arcreg@gchd.org or bring a copy to the Animal Resource Center.
If your pet is NOT microchipped
The registration fee is $20, which includes micro-chipping and is good for the lifetime of your pet. If you are 65 years of age or older, the registration fee is $15. You must bring your pet and current rabies vaccine certificate to the Animal Resource Center,
You will be provided with a registration certificate that you will need to keep, as it will be your proof of county registration.
